How Can I Whiten My Teeth?
There are many different types of procedures that can enhance the appearance of your smile and can be cosmetic dentistry. One of the most requested treatments for cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is a very simple, easy, affordable way to enhance your smile. Having white teeth is an aesthetic concern for a lot of people, and we have a few different ways that we can help you to brighten your smile. We have custom-fit teeth whitening trays, professionally dispensed whitening stripes, and some other types of whitening gels. Teeth whitening is not permanent, you will have to do touch-ups periodically, sometimes every few years, or more often if you feel like you need it. People who smoke, drink coffee, tea, dark sodas, and red wine may have to whiten more often.
What to expect when whitening your teeth
Before you start whitening your teeth, you will need to have an exam and cleaning to prepare your teeth. The dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that there won’t be anything causing discomfort during the bleaching process. An initial color of your teeth may be taken to see the end results of bleaching. Bleaching will only change the natural teeth, it will not change the color of crowns or fillings.
Potential problems with teeth whitening
Patients are not always able to reach the desired shade of white that they are wanting. Talk to your dentist to see what he would recommend.
Sensitivity can also occur after bleaching your teeth. But the sensitivity should not longer than a couple of days after bleaching your teeth.
Custom Fit Whitening Trays
Custom fit whitening trays are made in the office. An impression is taken of your teeth and models are made. Then a custom fit tray is made that you will wear to bleach your teeth. You will be given the bleach that you put inside the tray. Most patients wear the trays for about 30-45 minutes a day, depending on how sensitive their teeth are. Patients will typically wear their trays for a couple of weeks, and bleach as needed to maintain the desired whiteness of their teeth.
