Why are my teeth sensitive to cold?
When the hard enamel of your teeth has worn down or has receded, it causes tiny dentinal tubules to be exposed. This can cause pain when being exposed to hot and cold foods or beverages, or exposing them to cold air. Exposed areas in the tooth can cause pain and even affect or change your eating, drinking and breathing habits. Tooth sensitivity is one of the most common complaints with patients. Some toothpaste can contain abrasive ingredients that may be too harsh for some people who have sensitive teeth. Tooth sensitivity can be reduced by trying a sensitivity toothpaste. The dentist can apply sealants and other desensitizing or filling materials, including fluoride. Decreasing the intake of foods that are high in acid can also help.
What can I do if I have a dry mouth?

These can dry your mouth out as well. You can also try to stop using tobacco, if you smoke or chew tobacco. Sipping on water regularly can also help to keep the saliva flowing and has shown to relieve the symptoms. There are even over the counter products that you can try to help with the symptoms of a dry mouth.

What happens if a woman has a dental problem when she is pregnant?
Pregnancy and dental work questions are common for expecting moms. Having preventative dental cleanings and having routine exams done during pregnancy are not only safe, but they are recommended. When pregnant, there is a rise in hormone levels and that causes the gums to swell, bleed, and trap food causing increased irritation to your gums. Preventative dental work while being pregnant is essential to avoid oral infections such as gum disease, which has been linked to preterm birth.
How safe are traditional x-rays, and are the new digital-rays better?
Digital x-rays are one of the most important advances our profession has seen in a while. At our office we use digital x-ray technology. The ability to use less radiation on our patients, while increasing the diagnostic proficiency has outstanding implications. The reduction of harsh chemicals used to develop x-rays and other waste materials associated with the traditional x-rays is also an added benefit to our environment.
Are dental X-rays safe and needed?
Medical and dental experts have studied the use of x-rays and have set limits for their safety. Expect to have them taken when you come in for your first exam. This is going to help the dentist check the teeth and gums lines for cavities. Normally you will have
x-rays taken every 6 months.
Are there dental problems associated with diabetes?
Yes, if diabetes is left un-treated, it can take a toll on your mouth by:
You may have less saliva, causing your mouth to be dry.
Because saliva protects your teeth, you’re at a higher risk of cavities.
Gums can be become inflamed and can bleed.
You may have problems tasting food.
You could experience delayed healing of wounds.
You may be susceptible to infections in your mouth.
Having regular dental visits are important. Treating gum disease can help improve blood sugar in patients with diabetes, decreasing the progression of the disease. Practicing good oral health care at home and having professional cleanings done can help immensely.
